It has really knocked the stuffing out of me. Need the break. The over-worked, adrenaline fueled term is almost over. I actually need the break to catch up with work. Will have some down time though. Intending to see "Bruno" with David-K next Monday. Catching up with a couple of friends from the old job on the weekend (who thought I was already on holiday), and a few more for coffee during the next fortnight. We've been following the exploits of a mouse in the staffroom over the year. We weren't able to get an externinator and to be honest we all bonded in our way. All food stuffs were safely sealed off and he didn't appear to be eating paper goods. Being next to a student area there was always food to be found outside. Yes, it's true, I've been back teaching for three weeks. In most ways it's as if I've never left. Finally feel as if I've achieved something at the end of the day again. I've settled in almost completely, noticed that the things that used to drive me mad barely rate as annoyances any more. It's good to be back, I'd never have believed it... |

22:26 and it is a cool 32°C. The portable aircon is making a valiant attempt at doing little more than stir up a draft while sounding like a small aircraft attempting take off. It's hot. There, gripe over. Haven't begun teaching yet, still on leave. The department isn't helping, changing my status twice incorrectly. Public service, how my experience of thee has progressively soured. Housemate is out visiting friends. Chatting to a mate online. Watering my plants in the vain hope that they'll make it. The pond plants are growing at about 2cm a day (yes I measured). Put the clothes on the line as soon as it was dark, it was just too oppressive to put them on the line during the day. As updates go, I suppose this is pretty lame, but I'm well out of practice. Anyway, hope everything is going well in your lives. Cheers (loving Carlton Dry fusions btw, and the occasional G&T). |

...and they only advertised my position last Thursday. At least I have someone to hand over to. That was decided this morning. I do wonder why I bothered to give them more than three months notice. Made good use of JB Hifi's sale over the weekend. I cleared out the wish list, picking the complete series of Red Dwarf, and Bottom, replaced season 4 of Futurama that had been stolen while I was teaching, and a couple of movies that I'd been waiting for a sale to pick up, like Blazing Saddles, History of the World, and Lost Boys 2. David/E was bacheloring it over the end of last week and the weekend that just past, so I took the opportunity to introduce him to World of Warcraft. Ellie may want to kill me, so I'll have to stress that I've given David/E something to do that will help release stress, rather than yes, I'm responsible for her not having any access to the home computer. Have almost cleaned the pool out. It should be ready for the last of the major cleaning when I get home, just in time as we have a forecast to a couple of days when it is expected to break 40ºC. |

At 5:50 a.m. my cat thought it would be a good idea to release an Indian Minor Bird into my bedroom. He was delighted. The Minor Bird flying about the room in a mad panic was not so enthusiastic about the situation. Nor was my cat when I managed to drag myself out of bed and to the window, remove the screen and persuaded the bird to get out of Dodge. Morph had a big eyed "you did what now?!" look on his face and was not a happy camper. This is with three bells on him and a very open yard (no ambush potential). Perhaps unsurprisingly, I didn't manage to get back to sleep after the adrenaline pumped through my system, and so I've had an earlier than intended start to the day... |

I work in an area that I share with two others. They're both away for two weeks, one on holiday, the other recovering from surgery after appendicitis. It's very quiet, and I'm a little worried about the guy in hospital. |

There's a Welcome Swallow loose in my office. Very cute. Very determined, considering I'm on the third floor of a secure building that has one entrance and windows that can't be opened. I've taken a photo, but it's a crop of a pic taken by a mobile phone. |

Realy sore. Not the usual "blown nose too much" either. Still could be worse. Had an uneventful weekend, and today has been calm at work. So far no "demands" on my time. Will be leaving slightly early today, I really have to do some household cleaning. My kitchen is approaching feral status. |

Walked into work this morning and did my usual pat down, wallet, iPod, pass, phone... phone? >_< A day without the mobile. That won't be annoying... Could be worse. Work is busy. Spring, well hasn't quite sprung, but is dawdling on it's way. Planning on going to see Mummy 3 on the weekend. |

I'm sitting here wondering if I can make it through the rest of the day. I've had a decent night's sleep too. No excuses. Annoyed that I can't get Time Machine on the Mac to work. Keeps stalling at 843.7 Mb of 125 Gb. Add to the mix that my new ADSL modem/router doesn't work with .Me flavoured "Back to the Mac", and you can begin to see why Apple isn't my favourite fruit selection. I'm glossing over the fact that I haven't exactly been a regular poster lately (well the last 18 months to two years in fact), I could blame the new job, or even apply some effort and come up with a good excuse, but really, we'd know all know it was a lie. Looking forward to seeing "Hellboy 2" on the weekend, may even try and catch "The Mummy 2". I think I had something of substance to post, but can't for the life of me remember what it was.. |
